Kawaguchiko Hotel

The room was comfortable and clean and entirely adequate for our needs. The facility is a bit "aged" but well kept. The staff were pleasant and helpful. Overall impression was good. I would recommend this to other travelers not in need of extreme luxury.

The staff were so friendly and kind- very welcoming and always ready to help with any questions. The breakfast was traditional Japanese and delicious! The onsen was to die for- we had a view of Mt Fuji from the onsen. My room window also looked out into Mt Fuji so I was very lucky. The location was perfect- right on the lake. It was a lovely old fashioned guesthouse type hotel- emphasis on the staff . It has been modernised in the public areas- the bedroom was a little shabby but I didn’t mind that because of the view. They also had Japanese style tatami mat rooms overlooking the lake.

A wonderful traditional stay (opt in for the Japanese tatami room!) that overlooks the lake and Mt. Fuji. The experience checking both in and out was easy and free of any difficulty as the staff speak English well. They operate a shuttle service to/from Kawaguchiko station that made getting around very convenient. Both the male and female onsen have a beautiful view of Mt. Fuji. The staff are all incredibly pleasant, hospitable, and helped us with recommendations as well as any questions we had about the area. The hotel in general has a dated feel/look to it that adds to its charm. Everything was clean and easy to locate. Definitely recommend this stay if you’re looking for a budget friendly hotel with great views and friendly staff!

Kawaguchi Hotel is a truly wonderful place to stay and offers an authentic Japanese experience. The highlight of our visit was the traditional tatami rooms, which were both comfortable and immersive. Guests can choose between a Japanese or English-style breakfast, both of which are delicious and thoughtfully prepared. The hotel boasts stunning views—Lake Kawaguchi on one side and the majestic Mount Fuji on the other—making every moment feel serene and picturesque. The reception staff were exceptional, going above and beyond to ensure our stay was enjoyable. The receptionist not only greeted us warmly but also provided a detailed map, pointing out nearby attractions and recommending restaurants for a variety of food options. Their guidance made exploring the area effortless and enjoyable. The hotel is perfectly located, just a short distance from Kawaguchi Station, with a local bus stop conveniently situated right outside. This makes getting around incredibly easy. The surrounding area is filled with fantastic restaurants, offering a wide range of cuisines to suit every palate. The onsen facilities were a delight—clean, relaxing, and a perfect way to unwind after a day of exploring. The breakfast experience was equally heartwarming, with attentive elderly ladies ensuring guests felt at home, checking in regularly to make sure everything was perfect. Overall, Kawaguchi Hotel is a must-visit for anyone looking to experience traditional Japanese hospitality, tatami-style rooms, and onsen culture. Everything about this place, from its cleanliness and friendly atmosphere to its prime location and breathtaking views, makes it a top recommendation. We loved our stay here and would highly recommend it to others!

Free train station shuttles to/from the hotel - if you don't have mobile phone coverage, use the visitor centre at the train station to call on your behalf. We were picked up within about 10 minutes in the mid-afternoon when we arrived. Friendly staff greeting us at every attendance to the hotel. English speaking staff, which should never be expected from a visitor to a country, but made asking about local attractions easier. Our room had excellent views of the lake and Mt Fuji. Large room with all the required amenities. Traditional Japanese breakfasts each morning, which were well presented and very filling. Staff were more than happy to help with explaining each dish when needed. WiFi was good with full coverage across the hotel. Traditional hotel with lots of history, which is displayed on the walls in photographs and specific items. Wood cabin style which we really enjoyed. Onsen facilities for guest use. Loved our stay here.
